About
Successful therapy is built on confidentiality, empathy, and hope.
It starts with scheduling a no-cost phone consultation. We’ll have a conversation. If the fit is good, we’ll proceed to complete forms and set a time to meet.
In a therapy session we’ll meet virtually via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You will speak and I will patiently listen. Together, we’ll identify harmful thoughts and behaviors. As we move through therapy, we’ll explore your past, present, and future, your hopes and dreams, as well as your fears and regrets.
Then we’ll address strategies to help you regulate and control your thoughts and behaviors. Instead of fixating on your faults, you will learn how to be compassionate with yourself.
You can expect to experience and begin to identify new feelings and emotions. At times, I will ask you to challenge the beliefs that do not serve you. The trust that we have established and your willingness to be open will allow transformative work to occur. You will be able to set clear goals for yourself and construct a plan to achieve them.
When you’re ready to take the first step, you can complete the contact form, or call me directly (612) 440-8591, and I’ll be in touch with you very soon.
About Therapy
About Me/ Shoua Lor, LICSW
After 12 years of working as a medical social worker in fast-paced hospital settings, I made the decision to become a psychotherapist. One of the most fulfilling part of my previous professional life was mentoring new employees. The process was very similar to therapy. I helped them gain confidence, set goals, and learn how to achieve them. I’m now able to use both my mind and my heart to help people gain control of their lives.
As a first-generation Hmong American, I have spent most of my life conforming to the expectations of others. I’ve experienced past painful experiences that I didn’t even realize impacted my present-day anxieties, worries, feelings of discontent, and emotional overwhelm. These events taught me unhelpful ways to view myself and the world - those lessons held me back from the confidence and freedom I craved.
I am dedicated to helping people heal from the past and live free and fulfilled in the present.
